Is Your Relationship in Hibernation?

It's a time for new beginnings. During the Winter, some people really suffer from low energy and mood. due to dark mornings and evenings.

But hopefully the longer days and more sunshine have lifted moods.

During those dark, miserable days you may not have felt like bothering, it's much more effort to do things - and amongst other things, there is a danger of relationships becoming neglected. You can’t be bothered to make the effort.

Just for a moment, I would like you to imagine you have a small seedling in a pot.

It needs loving care and attention for it to grow into a healthy strong plant. It needs the right nutrients – water, rich soil, and sunlight.

If you banish it into a dark cupboard and ignore it – it will wither and eventually die.

The same happens with a relationship. It too needs loving care and attention. It needs the right conditions for it to flourish.

When couples neglect their relationship –

They find themselves just existing - living alongside each other – but certainly not connected. They are each leading their own lives, parallel to each other, often only meeting at mealtimes, and spending some time together at weekends (often with their children or family and friends).

Conversations are transactional, about things going on in their daily lives. They rub along together, often without any arguments.

They have settled for this, it’s OK. But its certainly missing any kind of spark.

They make a conscious decision not to do anything about it as they don’t want to rock the boat

.

Until that fateful day when one of them decides they have had enough. They find someone else who will pay them attention and treats them more than a piece of furniture.

Do something before it’s too late

• Spend quality time together – just the two of you.

• Pay each other attention

• Talk to each other - and more importantly LISTEN

• If you are unhappy, talk to your partner about it. Don’t hope it will go away.
