Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the right therapist?

I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is really important. Therefore it's important that you find somebody you feel you can talk to and trust and feel comfortable with. You may decide to talk to or visit a few counsellors before making a final decision. I offer a reduced initial session to help you make that decision.

FAQ #01What next?
You can contact me to arrange an initial consultation, either by the confidential email form which you will find on the right hand side of each page, or by phone. The purpose of this meeting is for us to decide whether we can work together and if counselling is the right form of help for you at this time. We will also discuss what your expections from counselling are, and what you hope to achieve. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions about what counselling involves, or any other concerns you may have.I will also explain about confidentiality and what counselling involves.

I can offer both day and evening appointments, Monday to Friday to suit you.

What happens in a session?

You decide what you want to talk about and when. We will concentrate on the areas which you wish to work on.I work in a non-directive way, and appreciate you need to build trust in me before working at a deeper level.

What sort of things can I talk about?

These are just some of the things people talk about in therapy:

  • Feeling depressed, sad, anxious or stressed
  • Low self-esteem
  • Coping with loss or bereavement
  • Facing redundancy or retirement
  • Facing difficult decisions about the future
  • Wanting to change unwanted patterns of behaviour, eg. unhealthy eating habits, self- harming, difficulties in expressing or controlling anger
  • The impact of physical, emotional or sexual abuse

How long are the sessions?

We will normally meet on a weekly basis initially for up to six sessions; after this, we will review and decide between us if more sessions if necessary. Some clients feel they only need a few sessions, whilst others may decide they want to stay in therapy for much longer.

What happens if I cannot make an appointment?

If you have to miss an appointment please give 48 hours notice. Otherwise you will be expected to pay for the missed appointment,or arrange an alternative appointment where possible.

What if I am late for a session?

Unfortunately if you are late, I cannot extend the session, and we will end at the normal time, as I may have another client.
